FVD International’s director, John Laughland, was interviewed on TNT Radio this week, to discuss the international situation. He explained that the standing of Britain and the collective West is at an all-time low, thanks to shameless double standards combined with objective weakness. The West’s economic warfare against Russia has been a flop; its proxy war in Ukraine is not beating the Russians but is merely prolonging the fighting. The emergence of a multipolar world on the ruins of the Americans’ Griff nach der Weltmacht is a reality – as the astonishing visit of Xi Jinping to Paris, Belgrade and Budapest has shown. The only surprise is that Western elites cannot see this. Instead, the West has entered the Brezhnevite phase of terminal decline, according to the terms of the old Soviet joke which has Stalin, Khrushchev and Brezhnev travelling in a train which breaks down. “Shoot the train driver!” says Stalin and he is shot. “Rehabilitate the train driver!” says Khrushchev. And Brezhnev: “Draw the curtains and let’s pretend the train is still moving.”
