The prehistoric clay mask or statuette without a mouth from the late Chalcolithic period, that is, the period before 4000 BC, is one of the many impressive artifacts found in recent excavations in the Salt Pit settlement near Provadiya in Bulgaria. However, it made headlines thanks to its highly intriguing features, and the team investigating Europe’s first prehistoric city, led by Professor Vasil Nikolov of the National Institute and Museum of Archeology in Sofia, dedicated a special statement .
